Welcome to Liverpool

European Capital of Culture 2008

Arts & Culture

Liverpool has two Cathedrals which are major attractions in their own right. The Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King are fine examples of internationally recognised architecture.

Liverpool has a number of world class museums - next to the BT Convention Centre at the Albert Dock is the Merseyside Maritime Museum, or visit World Museum in the City Centre. Art lovers shouldn't miss the Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool with lots of exciting exhibitions.

Musical

If music's more your scene, take a Magical Mystery Tour, visit the Cavern Club or the Beatles Story Museum, next to the BT Convention Centre on the Albert Dock .

Maritime

Trace the thread of maritime history through Liverpool, starting at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. From the museum, head down to the Pier Head to take a Ferry across the Mersey, from where you can admire our World Heritage Site, the Liverpool Waterfront.

Shopping and Nightlife

Head into central Liverpool, stopping at the new Met Quarter, home to a host of designer stores including Armani, Gucci and Prada. Visit Cavern Walks for stylish boutiques including Bardot, Cricket and Vivienne Westwood, before heading back over to the waterfront to the Albert Dock with its bars and boutique shops.

Sport

Red or blue, you can tour both of Liverpool's football stadia - Everton and five times European Champions Liverpool. Or visit Aintree Racecourse, home of the world famous steeplechase, the Grand National.
